Project Name: Hemphill WTP Compliance Improvements
The Hemphill Water Treatment Plant (WTP), located on Bishop Street NW, is a manually operated water treatment plant that is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days per week and has a maximum capacity of 136.5 MGD. Operating since 1893, the Hemphill WTP is one of three water treatment plants in the City’s water treatment system that provides potable water for the City and parts of Fulton County. The Hemphill WTP supplies water to retail, residential, commercial, and industrial customers within the City and portions of Fulton County south of the Chattahoochee River and in South Fulton County. The plant also supplies water to fire hydrants throughout the City.
The scope of this project includes:
- Sedimentation basin improvements
- New belt press building
- Replacement of pumps and valves
- Repair clarifier leak
- Removal of diesel generator fuel tank
- SCADA system improvements
- Replacement of chemical feeds, underdrains, and filter media
- New chemical building
- Demolition of diesel generator system and old chemical feed building
- Replacement of Clearwell #1

- Improves system reliability and efficiency
- Updates legacy equipment
- Improves system resiliency
