Wastewater System
Wastewater System
Project Name: SG3 Capacity Relief Projects – Ashby-Jett, Lower Proctor Trunk & Terrell Creek Trunk (Niles Ave)
Project includes:
- SG3 Capacity Relief Projects – Ashby-Jett (Phase 2)
- SG3 Capacity Relief Projects – Terrell Creek Trunk (Phase 2)
- SG3 Capacity Relief Projects – Niles Avenue Sewer Improvements- Emergency
- SG3 Capacity Relief Projects – Lower Proctor Creek Trunk Rehabilitation
The Department is continuing the implementation of the Sewer Capacity Relief Program to upgrade its existing large diameter system to eliminate sanitary sewer overflows and capacity limitations. To accomplish this objective, the City is proposing system improvements for three trunk sewers located in the Proctor Creek Basin. These projects will consist of improvements to the Ashby-Jett Trunk, Lower Proctor Creek Trunk, and Terrell Creek Trunk (Phase 2) sewers.
These projects are necessary to meet the requirements of the Second Amendment to the First Amended Consent Decree (FACD), which prescribes evaluation and improvement measures to eliminate sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) and to protect the City’s investment in upgraded Water Reclamation Centers. The current milestone completion date for the work under these projects is July 1, 2020.
The scope of the project includes:
- Lower Proctor Creek
Rehabilitating approximately 1,500 feet of the 54-inch sewer
- Terrell Creek Trunk Sewer
Replacing of approximately 10,000 feet of two parallel trunk sewers
- Ashby-Jett Trunk
Replacing about 1,300 feet of the existing 18-inch sewer with a 24-inch sewer
- The scope of Niles Avenue Realignment includes:
Designs for a public sewer to convey wastewater flows by means of gravity interceptor(s), a pump station, and/or force main to divert existing flow from existing 12 & 15-inch sanitary sewer interceptors located to the northwest of Marietta Boulevard NW and Niles Avenue NW. This system collects wastewater flows from an adjacent neighborhood and townhome complex and flows in a westerly direction through an existing sewer pipeline with known obstructions and traverses through an existing rock recycling facility.
Justification:
- Enhances flow capacity of the trunk and outfall sewers
- Reduces Infiltration/Inflow (I/I), or extraneous flows into the sewer system
- Increases protection of our receiving waters and reduces threat to public health and safety
- Addresses Consent Decree requirements
