FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the 2015-2019 Capital Improvement Program?
The Capital Improvement Program, or CIP, is Atlanta’s plan to address system needs for sustaining, restoring and modernizing our facilities and infrastructure that supports the City’s water and wastewater infrastructure.
2. How will the City of Atlanta pay for the 2015-2019 Capital Improvement Program? The City will use revenue from water and sewer bills, commercial paper, Georgia Environmental Financial Authority loan proceeds, grants and bonds.
3. How are projects chosen and prioritized for the 2015-2019 Capital Improvement Program?
The CIP projects were chosen and prioritized based on funding availability and the most critical water and wastewater infrastructure needs that will ensure continued quality service to our customers. The Water and Wastewater Master Plans, and an Integrated Utility Plan developed by DWM informed the final selection of the projects.
4. When will the projects start?
Atlanta has already started implementation of several projects in an effort to meet critical infrastructure demands. In the upcoming months, more projects will begin construction throughout the City. If work is scheduled in your neighborhood, we will notify you prior to construction starting on your street.

6. How will the Capital Improvement project impact me?
As we work to upgrade the City’s system, construction may present a temporary inconvenience. Although varied by project, some short-term impacts include road and lane closures, noise, dust and water outages. However, this work will result in more efficient operations and service delivery, allowing us to provide high quality drinking water on demand and collect and treat wastewater from homes and businesses in a manner that is environmentally sound. Some projects are making neighborhoods more vibrant and resilient.
7. How can I learn more about projects impacting my home, business or community?
