The National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) discharge permit conditions require the City of Atlanta to improve the water quality in degraded urban streams within its sewer service area. In the near term, DWM will focus on improving drainage issues in areas – along Carroll Street and Boulevard Street in southeast Atlanta. The purpose of this project is to repair deteriorated infrastructure to better control stormwater flow and reduce sediment load into these two areas of the City’s combined sewer system, thereby reducing flooding and enhancing local water quality. Other areas with critical drainage issues will be considered.
The scope of the Carroll Street Project includes:
Upsizing the formerly combined pipes and constructing a relief pipe
Providing additional manholes, catch basins and a rain garden
The scope of the Boulevard Street project includes:
Upsizing about 1,100 linear feet of pipe
Installing additional manholes and catch basins
