HomeWP-Upper Proctor Creek – Green Infrastructure Design Challenge
Watershed Protection
Project Name: Green Infrastructure Design Challenge
The Department of Watershed Management’s (DWM) Green Infrastructure (GI) Design Challenge advances Atlanta’s continuing efforts to implement GI in City watersheds. The GI Challenge aims to engage the design community to construct innovative and practical GI solutions in the City, foster City and community involvement, and provide environmental improvements and neighborhood enhancements.
Challenge teams will consist of a Landscape Architect, Civil Engineer, Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), and a member of the impacted community. (Student participation also is strongly encouraged)
Each team can submit a design concept for one or more projects. The City intends to award five different contracts for the six projects. The City may award each contract to different teams or can elect to award multiple projects to the same teams. A separate entry must be submitted for each project:
1. MLK at Hunter Place
2. Moreland Place at Hemlock Circle
3. DWM Building at 2 City Plaza
4. Continental Colony Elementary School
5. Chastain Park
6. Peachtree Creek in Memorial Park
Selected submissions will be based on how successfully innovation is balanced with practicality.
Justification:
The overall goal of all six projects is to maximize infiltration and storage of stormwater runoff from the surrounding area while maintaining feasible construction and long-term maintenance costs.
